Co-sponsored by Media@69热视频 and 69热视频 Development and Alumni Relations.

The 69热视频 Daily, which once billed itself as "the oldest student daily newspaper in the Commonwealth" celebrates its 100th anniversary this year. Among the many events commemorating the occasion, Media@69热视频 and the department of Development and Alumni Relations will hold a blue-ribbon panel discussion on the role of the media in society - past, present and future. A distinguished panel of experts will look back at the defining role of media in some of the key moments of the past century - and forward to suggest what we might expect from the media in the next.

"From early radio broadcasts to the latest revelations from Wikileaks, media have been at the cutting edge of challenges to received ideas during the past century," said Marc Raboy, Beaverbrook Chair in Ethics, Media, and Communications, who will chair the discussion. "The 69热视频 Daily (on which I had the honour to serve some decades ago...) continues to be a vibrant voice of social criticism whose relevance extends beyond the campus borders. We are delighted to take this opportunity to salute the Daily while looking at the pivotal role of media as a social force."

Joining Professor Raboy on the panel will be Dr. Enn Raudsepp, media historian and Professor Emeritus at Concordia University; journalist and political activist Judy Rebick, and Professor Darin Barney, Canada Research Chair in Citizenship and Technology at 69热视频.
