Internship Spotlight: Juliette Guillot - Youth In Motion

Throughout my internship at Youth in Motion (YIM) in Little Burgundy I have been able to take part in organizing a number of community events and festivals, as well as overlook budget and communication. I was also tasked with showing the ropes to newcomers as I was about to finish my internship. My two month internship was mostly focused on the larger project of organizing and holding la fete nationale du Quebec on June 24th as well as setting up upcoming festivals such as Canada Day and the Burgundy Festival, it was quite rewarding to see all my hard work come together in a final product such as la Saint Jean as I was able to finally meet the artists I had been in contact with for a while, see the people of the community come together and enjoy a fun day around activities and amazing food.

This internship was quite eye opening because it allowed me to get an inside look into a prominent community here in Montr茅al as well as allowed me to find other opportunities in the same sector. I have also developed and perfected some skills such as communication, budgeting, organizing and fundraising which are going to essential for future job opportunities. While during the internship I felt as if I didn鈥檛 have a lot of work even when we asked if we could be given more responsibility. But this did allow me that part of having an internship for such a short period of time is mostly to watch and learn from the people and understand the way that their company functions and allow us to see what work environment we like as well as learn how to voice our opinions.

Overall, this internship has left a significant mark on me and I will use this experience as a reference for later internships and jobs. I am grateful to the Faculty of Arts Internship Awards for making this possible.
