On Canada Day, July 1, 2017, Canada's newest astronauts were announced: Dr. Jennifer Sidey (B.Eng. Honours '11) and Mr. Joshua Kutryk, both from Alberta. The Department of Mechanical Engineering at 69热视频 is very proud of Jennifer's achievement.
Five 69热视频 graduates in Mechanical Engineering are candidates participating in the 2017 Canada Space Agency astronaut selection process.听Vincent Beaudry (M.Eng. '09), Julie Bellerose (B.Eng. Honours '03), Shane Jacobs (B.Eng. '04), Jennifer Sidey (B.Eng. Honours '11) and Genevi猫ve Valli猫res (B.Eng. '02) are running for the chance to be the next Canadian astronauts. Two聽individuals will be chosen among 70 exceptional candidates.听.

With spring finally here and warmer temperatures just around the corner, snow will slowly melt away, releasing us from the clutches of winter. However, that鈥檚 not the only thing that the melting snow will release. Researchers from 69热视频 and 脡cole de technologie sup茅rieure in Montreal have found that urban snow accumulates a toxic cocktail from car emissions - pollutants that are in turn unleashed into the environment as the weather warms up.
Prof. Sylvain Coulombe received the Outstanding Reviewer Award 2016 for Journal of Physics D: Applied Physics.
Prof. Lawrence Chen has agreed to serve as the first Academic Lead of the eLATE (enhancing learning and teaching in Engineering) initiative.听 Prof. Chen will work in collaboration with academic staff and the Pedagogical Coordinator towards meeting the initiative鈥檚 objectives, bringing the perspective of a faculty member. Professor Chen is one of our Faculty鈥檚 leaders in teaching and learning improvement, and has a growing record of advancing the state of education in our Faculty by implementing new teaching methodologies in FACC courses as well as undergraduate and graduate ECSE courses.

On 聽Saturday, November 26 from 3am to 5pm, Facilities will be performing renovation work聽that will affect temperatures in the Schulich Library of Physical Sciences, Life Sciences and Engineering. The steam distribution system in the Macdonald-Stewart Library Building (Schulich Library) will be shut down in order to fix six leaks before the winter season sets in. As a result, library users may experience colder than normal temperatures. Spaces will be open for study but users should dress accordingly.
