Introverts, extroverts and praise for a job well done

According to Desautels Faculty of Management Associate Professor Karl Moore and Desautels MBA graduate Adrienne Jung, Gary Chapman and Paul White鈥檚 book, The Five Languages of Appreciation in the Workplace, examines five methods for showing appreciation to your colleagues, and how to tailor those methods for introverts and extroverts. Praising an employee鈥檚 work is great, but not taking that worker's personality into consideration when paying a compliment may make that compliment less effective.

One way to fit a commendation to an employee is to make sure the context is right: an extrovert might love a pat on the back in front of his co-workers, while an introvert might prefer the privacy of a one-to-one.聽
