The Herzl鈥檚 Teenage Health Unit has received funding of $50,000 from TD for their new Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) project which offers support to high school student services professionals (e.g., guidance counsellors, social workers, nurses) of Montreal and remote localities by providing them with a series of CBT workshops. While psychologists at the Herzl鈥檚 Teenage Health Unit continue to deliver their formal CBT to the many teenagers they serve, this project enhances the ability of student services professionals to effectively address mental health issues in their students, by explaining how to teach students effective trans-diagnostic mental health strategies. Dr. Michael Malus (physician) and Dr. Perry Adler (psychologist) of the Department of Family Medicine, are leading the project.
Established in 1985, the Teenage Health Unit conducts an adolescent outreach program in Montreal schools and provides free medical and psychological support to teens aged 13 to 19. Services vary from basic medical care and reproductive health to issues such as depression, stress, anxiety, substance abuse, eating disorders and suicide. Twice a month, Herzl physicians, residents and nurses visit Montreal high schools and hold classroom discussions with teenagers on adolescent health issues. They answer anonymous or direct questions and distribute cards with the Teenage Health Unit鈥檚 contact details for students who want medical or psychological help.

About Dr. Michael Malus
Dr. Michael Malus, a family doctor at the Department of Family Medicine, graduated from medical school at 69热视频 in 1963. He was the Director of the Herzl Family Practice Centre of the Jewish General Hospital for 22 years. About Dr. Perry Adler
Dr. Perry Adler, a lecturer at the Department of Family Medicine, teaches and supervises family medicine residents in the Goldman Herzl Family Practice Centre at the JGH. He is also the Director of the Centre鈥檚 Teenage Health Unit and Director of its Psychology Internship and Training Program. In his private clinic, "Perry S. J. Adler & Associates", Dr. Adler provides services to teens, adults, groups and organizations, based on his expertise in anxiety and mood disorders, cognitive behaviour therapy, psychosomatic disorders, relationship difficulties, as well as executive and leadership development.
