Published: 9 June 2011

There is a reason Siobhan (Chevy) Lazenby is graduating this year as Class Act, valedictorian and the winner of Canada's two largest scholarships for undergraduate studies (Loran Award and TD scholarship).

At school, Chevy is the captain and assistant captain for soccer and field hockey, and did cross-country, swimming, track and field and diving. She was a key leader for our school's leadership club, social amnesty, a captain of the debate squad, a member of film fest and grad committee, an editor for the school newspaper and a mentor for ALP and ACCESS students. She also helped co-found a student board, to give voice to the student body and wellness committee that organized resiliency and suicide prevention seminars for parents, teachers and students.

Outside of school, Chevy is a coach and a tutor for young athletes, volunteers at YMCA's Camp Chief Hector, and spent last summer canoeing 1,500 kilometres across the Northwest Territories for two months, visiting Dene communities along the way through a prestigious YMCA leadership trip called Sac Dene. Chevy helped re-establish an orphanage in Northern India after volunteering there in Grade 8. She has recently founded a scholarship fund, enabling students in India to further their education. Next year, she will be attending 69ÈÈÊÓƵ for their bachelor of arts and science program and plans to major in environmental sciences.
