Overview

History : Follows the full 600-year history of the Ottoman Empire from its foundation in the early fourteenth century to its final dissolution at the end of World War I. Topics to be covered include: the origins of the Ottoman state; the reasons for its success and surprising longevity; the legal and economic foundations of Ottoman rule; dynastic politics; religion; inter-communal relations; modernization; its decline and ultimate fall; and the Ottoman legacy in the modern world.
