Danielle Brosseau, MA

PhD Candidate

Photo of Danielle BrosseauDanielle is a PhD Candidate in Counselling Psychology at 69热视频.听 Danielle obtained her MA in Counselling Psychology from Trinity Western University.听 Her interest in psychosocial oncology first began during her MA work where Danielle examined the stress-deflecting effects of relationship quality among couples coping with cancer.听

Danielle鈥檚 current research interests remain centered on the psychosocial factors that influence the stress reactions and coping responses experienced by cancer patients and their intimate partners.听 This work involves investigating the influence of dyadic factors (e.g., dyadic coping, relationship quality, efficacy) on stress outcomes (e.g., distress, traumatic stress) that are experienced across the illness trajectory.听 Danielle鈥檚 doctoral research involves the development and psychometric testing of an instrument to assess couples鈥 dyadic efficacy as it relates to coping with the multiple stressors associated with cancer diagnosis and treatment.

Adina Coroiu, MA

PhD Student

Adina completed a BA with Honours in Psychology at Ryerson University and a MA in Counselling Psychology at 69热视频. 听She is currently pursuing a PhD in Counselling Psychology at 69热视频. 听Adina鈥檚 research interests revolve around health psychology, particularly what motivates individuals who are chronically ill to adhere to and sustain health behaviours.

Adina is currently involved in three lines of research: a) the development of valid and reliable measures to assess psychological constructs (e.g., interpersonal competence; cancer-specific distress; fatigue); b) understanding the factors that promote or hinder adherence to health regimens in skin cancer patients; and c) systematically reviewing educational interventions for individuals at high risk for melanoma and their effect on skin self-examination behaviours and melanoma early detection. Adina's doctoral research, which is co-supervised by Drs. Annett K枚rner and Brett Thombs, includes a systematic review with meta-analysis of the literature on psychosocial interventions for people at high risk for melanoma. She hopes to extend this work into postdoctoral studies, where she would like to identify the most effective strategies to deliver prevention interventions for skin cancer patients in diverse healthcare settings.

Vanessa Delisle, MSc

PhD Student

Vanessa obtained a BSc (Honours) in Psychology from 69热视频 in 2009. During her undergraduate studies, Vanessa completed two Honours theses in the areas of health psychology. The first, under the supervision of Dr. Zeev Rosberger at the Jewish General Hospital, examined factors affecting acceptability of the newly released Gardasil vaccine, which protects against four types of Human Papillomavirus (HPV), two of which cause the majority of cervical cancers, in a sample of university students. Vanessa鈥檚 second Honours thesis, under the supervision of Dr. Kenneth Bruce at the Douglas Hospital, investigated factors affecting motivation for treatment in a sample of eating disordered women. After graduation, Vanessa coordinated a project for Dr. Rosberger, which examined the effectiveness of an intervention aimed at increasing HPV and HPV vaccine knowledge, promoting positive HPV vaccine attitudes and beliefs, and increasing HPV vaccine acceptability among a sample of young adults. Vanessa joined the Behavioural Health Research Group (BHRG) in 2010 and obtained a MSc in Psychiatry from 69热视频 under the supervision of Dr. Thombs in 2012.

Vanessa is currently completing her PhD in Counselling Psychology at 69热视频 under the supervision of Dr. Brett Thombs and Dr. Annett K枚rner. To date she has done research on the measurement of depressive symptoms, focusing on the widely used Beck Depression Inventory (BDI). Specifically, she has examined whether women report more somatic symptoms than men and whether this may explain differences in the prevalence of depression between men and women. In addition, she has examined whether BDI scores post-myocardial infarction (MI) may be influenced by the possible over-endorsement of somatic symptoms common in both depression and following MI.

MA Student

Photo of Arianne Santerre-Theil

Ariane is currently enrolled in the MA Counselling Psychology program, co-supervised by Dr. Carmen G. Loiselle and Dr. Annett K枚rner.听Ariane obtained her MSc in Pharmaceutical Sciences from Universit茅 Laval. Her interest in psychosocial oncology first began during her MSc work where Ariane worked as a research assistant for the Centre ROSE program. Her masters project aimed to develop a tool to guide parents carrying a BRCA1/2 mutation to share genetic results with underage children. It led to the publication of a booklet currently distributed through the Centre ROSE network based in Qu茅bec City, with offices in Montr茅al, Saguenay and Bas-St-Laurent. During this time, she worked closely with issues related to hereditary and familial breast cancer, including assessment, communication, awareness-raising, perception of cancer risk and the development and evaluation of psychosocial interventions in oncogenetics. For the past year, she worked as a co-ordinator with Dr Armando Bertone's research team (), an Associate professor in the Department of Educational and Counselling Psychology, at 69热视频.

Her current research explores cancer-related decision-making for individuals with cancer who have an informal caregiver who is also a health professional. Her project will focus on the experience of the individual. The results of this project will help to determine whether patients benefit from interacting with someone in the medical field on a more personal level.
