La 10e conf茅rence annuelle du Projet Innocence de l'Universit茅 69热视频 porte sur les听causes multiples des erreurs judiciaires en mettant l'accent sur la discrimination et听les pr茅jug茅s raciaux et ethnoculturels,听les faux aveux,听les pratiques parfois douteuses des听forces polici猫res et de la Couronne听ainsi que sur la faillibilit茅 des t茅moins oculaires. This topic was chosen in keeping with our mandate to direct more efforts toward the prevention of wrongful convictions with an emphasis on educating the public about the causes of wrongful convictions and the ease with which they can occur.
Speakers
James Lockyer: Lockyer has been a criminal lawyer for 37 years. Since 1992, the majority of his practice has involved unravelling wrongful convictions. Mr. Lockyer is a founding director of the Association in Defence of the Wrongly Convicted (AIDWYC), a Canada-wide organization that advocates for the wrongly convicted.
Selwyn A. Pieters: Pieters has appeared at all levels of courts, including the Supreme Court of Canada in Fraser v. Ontario and Quebec (Commission des droits de la personne et des droits de la jeunesse) v. Bombardier Inc. (2015). Prior to entering private practice, Pieters was a Refugee Protection Officer at the Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada.
Evelyn Maeder: Dr. Maeder is the Director of the Institute of Criminology and Criminal Justice at Carleton University in Ottawa.听 Dr. Maeder鈥檚 work investigates the influence of social psychological principles in legal decision-making.听 Primarily, she examines factors (both legal and extralegal) related to jurors鈥� decisions in criminal trials.
