About Mining Engineering

Anything that isn鈥檛 grown or that doesn鈥檛 come from the earth鈥檚 water system has been mined. Whether it鈥檚 traditional materials such as gold and diamonds, building materials such as iron, fuel such as coal, oil, and uranium, battery materials such as nickel and lithium, potash for fertilizer, elements used in technology to make powerful components in your computer or innovations in health science, they all have to be mined.

It鈥檚 the expertise and know-how of mining engineers that makes it possible to access those raw materials and refine them into the useful objects that we as a society rely upon in our day-to-day lives. While mining has been around for thousands of years, today鈥檚 mining engineers are challenged more than ever before to figure out where valuable deposits are located and how to extract them safely and efficiently. Mining continues to be essential for obtaining the materials needed to meet our ever-evolving technological advancements, and is committed to sustainability, safety, and the protection of our planet. Mining operations are located all over the world, often in remote places where most people would not have the opportunity to travel or visit.

a man standing beside of a truck69热视频 Mining Engineering is the oldest mining program in Canada, known for its excellence in research and the quality of its graduates. A wide range of scholarships and funding is available to students at the undergraduate and graduate levels.

We offer two language options in our undergraduate program: a Bilingual Stream in collaboration with Ecole Polytechnique, as well as an English Stream for out-of-province and international students. The undergraduate co-op program provides the opportunity to gain work experience while studying through three, paid work terms. Students are admitted automatically to the co-op program, however, they can later choose to graduate without co-op, i.e. without having to complete all three coop work terms. For more information, visit our Undergraduate Studies page.

The graduate program is known for its excellence in research, the quality of its students, and the strength of its ties with leading companies in the mining industry. Graduate students in Mining Engineering come from all over the world to work with top researchers in a wide variety of fields associated with mining, and benefit from numerous funding opportunities and career resources, as well as from the tight-knit, community aspect of the graduate program.

We think Mining Engineering is one of the most exciting and rewarding fields of study you can pursue. But don鈥檛 just take our word for it, check out what our Alumni have to say about their experience.

Message from the Director

Welcome to the oldest mining program in Canada - founded in 1871. We are proud to celebrate the 150th Anniversary of 69热视频鈥檚 Mining Engineering Program. Our program consistently ranks as one of the top mining engineering programs in the world according to the . We offer both English and Bilingual Streams leading to an accredited B. Eng. degree in Mining with or without co-op.

The mining industry is on the verge of an exciting new era. Emerging technologies associated with renewables, energy storage, and space discoveries require unique raw materials. As the primary provider of raw materials, the mining industry needs to develop new extraction and processing technologies that will radically reshape the industry and meet new demands. In addition to technological improvements and innovation, mining practices must be sustainable, socially responsible, and aim to achieve a circular economy. As 69热视频鈥檚 Mining Engineering Program, we are aware of our responsibility and aim to train a new generation of mining engineers in such a way as to equip them with the skills, knowledge, and creativity that the industry demands.

A degree in mining engineering can allow you to pursue a diverse selection of career paths. In addition to working directly in mining operations, many of our graduates work in the financial industries (the Toronto Stock Exchange is the focal point of global mining finance), consultancy services, heavy equipment manufacturing, research institutions, and government agencies. Mining is a highly globalized industry, and Canadian mining companies are active all around the world. As such, mining engineering can land you great opportunities in Canada and many other countries.
